About Norm


Norm Macdonald was first elected as the MLA for Columbia River – Revelstoke on May 17th, 2005, and re-elected on May 12th, 2009 and May 14th, 2013.

Norm is the Opposition Critic for Energy and Mines.

Prior to his election, Norm was the principal of Nicholson Elementary, a small rural school outside of Golden. Norm has taught for more than 15 years in the Columbia Valley.

Norm also spent a total of 6 years teaching in Africa where he also
coached basketball and soccer and led student hikes up Kilimanjaro.

Norm served as a town councillor and then was elected Mayor of Golden in 1996. He lives in Golden with this wife Karen.

In his first term, Norm has served as Municipal Affairs critic, Tourism, Sport and the Arts critic and Education critic. Following his re-election in 2009, Norm was the critic for Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations.

As the MLA for Columbia River – Revelstoke Norm has focused his
energies on ensuring that rural issues are brought forward in the Legislature.

Norm believes that rural areas need to retain control of decision-making and a strong voice in Victoria is necessary to achieve that goal.
